Summer Camp 2017

The summer program at Montessori Academy at Sharon Springs is 8 weeks of fun and learning for students who have a wide range of interests. Browse our schedule of programs here.

We offer full day camps for children from 3 years old to 12 years old in arts, humanities, sciences, and more! Camp Day is from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM, and Full Day is from 7:30 AM until 6:00 PM for Primary, and from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM for Elementary.

Primary Themes

Asia

First stop is the home of huggable pandas, beautiful kimonos, eggrolls, karate, soccer, and Bollywood dancing. Exploring the far East will bring us all good fortune!

Australia

“Good day mate!” Let’s travel “down under” and visit the land of kangaroos, the Great Barrier Reef, didgeridoos, aboriginal boomerangs and grilling on the barbie.

Antarctica

Brrrr, its cold in here! Think huge frozen glaciers, Eskimos, building igloos, searching for whales and penguins, and snow globes; a few of the fun ways to stay “cool” this summer.

Africa

Lions, tigers and rhinos! Let’s go on a safari expedition, make tribal masks and bead necklaces, see African dance and drumming, and experience a side trip to Madagascar to explore its endless wonders.

North America

We’ll celebrate the USA from the Statue of Liberty to the shores of California! Then we a visit Monte the Moose’s Canadian home, become a Mountie, and chow down on pancakes with Maple Syrup.

South America

Watch out for the Tree Frogs! See colorful South America with Carnival Parades, prehistoric caves, musical rain sticks, and of course, the Rain Forrest.

Europe

Hop across the pond and let’s say “bonjour” to the sights, sounds and art of Europe. Our tour includes Windmills, the Eiffel Tower and Prince and Princesses and dancing the Irish jig.

Summer Olympics

Let the games begin! Kids experience the MASS Olympics: Opening ceremony, individual and team sports, indoor and outdoor games, medals and the closing ceremony.

Elementary Themes

You Gotta Have Art

Bring out your child’s inner artist during this amazing summer camp week! They will be instructed by an experienced artist in mediums that include painting, drawing, sculpting and more.

Acting and Drama

Drama camp features acting, improv, creative play, singing, dancing and designing. We will play theatre games, make up stories, sing and dance to music, and practice for our big performance on Friday.

Messtival

A messtival is just what it sounds like, a messy festival! For this week of camp kids will enjoy a variety of messy games and activities.

International Cooking

Kids learn basic cooking techniques such as knife skills, braising, sautéing, poaching, baking, and preparing fresh pasta. The week ends with a visit to a local culinary school and a binder full of recipes.

STEM Camp (Ages 6-12 Only)

21st Century Robotics: Bigger, Stronger, Faster

Kids will study the fundamentals of engineering and technology necessary to create amazing robots, and then construct simplified models of their own to reinforce the principles learned.

Rocket Science: Destination Mars!

Join our flight crew as we blast off to Mars! This exciting camp is all about rockets and how they are fueling our knowledge of other worlds. Campers learn what it takes to be a real rocket scientist!

Potent Potions and Fizzing Formulas

Junior scientists explore the magic of chemistry in this exciting camp that is full of actions and reactions! We’ll reveal the science of polymers, rate of reaction, oxidation and chromatography.

Coding and Animation

Using MIT’s Scratch computer language, campers create code that combines logic and creativity to bring objects to life with through computer programming and animation.

Spanish Immersion Camp

1st – 5th Grade
July 24 – July 28

Students will be exposed to the beauty of the Spanish language by experiencing oral proficiency, interaction and writing. This camp provides a fun and easy way for the students to learn Spanish by TPRS (total physical respond storytelling).

STEM: I Wanna Be… An Astronaut!

Pre-K & Kindergarten
July 10 – July 14

Three, two, one . . . blast off! From exploring the design of the International Space Station to simulating the handling and examining of moon rocks, our budding astronauts will learn about rockets, planets, and our solar system.

STEM: I Wanna Be… An Engineer!

Pre-K & Kindergarten
July 17 – July 21

By exploring many engineering disciplines, little hands work to create innovative projects that engage and amaze! From wing design to electric marble mazes, inventive minds discover what it takes to be an engineer.

STEM: I Wanna Be… A Physicist!

Pre-K & Kindergarten
July 24 – July 28

It’s time for campers to think like real scientists! Using the scientific method, little brains ponder a variety of physics-related topics and learn what it means to make hypotheses, perform experiments, record data, and examine results.
